Carte Valencia

On 9 September 2019, the World Design Organization (WDO)® designated Valencia (Spain) World Design Capital® (WDC) 2022 due to its long heritage in design and its efficient, strategic use of design in preparing public policies and its impact on the economy. Valencia is the eighth city to hold this biennial title.

« la candidature de Valence est articulée autour d’une proposition convaincante démontrant clairement l'application efficace du design méditerranéen, du design en faveur de la transformation et du design comme point de référence clé pour améliorer la qualité des citoyens ».

Luisa BOCCHIETTA,
PRÉSIDENTE DE LA WORLD DESIGN ORGANIZATION – 2017-2019
MEMBRE DU COMITÉ DE SÉLECTION WORLD DESIGN CAPITAL 2022

OUR AMBITION

Valencia is already planning its WDC 2022 programme and collaborations with local, regional and national organisations in the public and private sectors. It aims to use the unique opportunity of the World Design Capital® 2022 experience to educate its citizens by exploring and looking beyond traditional design disciplines.

APPROACHES

Valencia's interdisciplinary candidacy programme will embrace every aspect of design, from industrial design and the design of physical spaces through architecture to the conception of services and interfaces. Valencia is also planning to link up the year of design 2022 with its cultural programme.

Valencia aims to use its successful candidacy to make design the driving force of its urban innovation and help promote Valencian and Spanish design at the international level. The city of Valencia strives to incorporate the interests of the provinces of Alicante and Castellón and integrate the principles of design in the process of developing public policies in the areas of education, urban planning, communication, tourism, innovation, culture, the economy and the environment working in concert with businesses, institutions and citizens locally and nationally.
